About Città Eterna
Città Eterna, the Eternal City, is a series of night photographs of Rome, Italy. Rather than the monuments by daylight, it looks at the city after dark, when the crowds thin and the light comes from streetlamps, shop umbrellas and floodlit domes.
The series opens at the Trevi Fountain, where a chestnut vendor works under a glowing orange umbrella while visitors fill the square behind him. It moves on to a single wall lamp lighting a patched ochre façade of exposed brick beside a palazzo balcony, and closes on a floodlit church dome seen through cypresses and lamp-lit leaves.
Rome has been photographed more than almost any city on earth. These pictures look for the quieter Rome that sits alongside the famous one: the texture of old plaster and brick, the warm light that colours its streets at night, and the way its domes rise over gardens and rooftops.
